I am not a teacher: Only a fellow traveler of whom you asked the way. I pointed ahead - Ahead of myself as well as you.

First gainful employment as a beekeeper at 13 years old, built my own 50' by 25 foot green house and nursery business by 15, worked as a brick mason's laborer and professional photographer during my high school years, graduated from high school and moved to Los Angeles to practice still photography and motion picture film editing.

Somewhere along the line, I discovered that doing just one thing, work wise, was .... well.... boring!  Just wasn't my thing.... But I discovered that I really enjoyed learning new languages, new skills, and putting them to work, hopefully, in new ways.

One other thing that I discovered, and took to heart, was an idea that I discovered in an old quote by Albert Schweitzer.....

"I don't know what your destiny will be, but one thing I know: the only ones among you who will be really happy are those who will have sought and found how to serve."

   - Albert Schweitzer -

It just made sense to me, at a very deep level, and the rest of my life, and all the different things I have done along the way, naturally flowed out of that understanding.

The funny thing is that there are three things that I needed and wanted in my life turned out to be mutually supportive of each other.... My need for "requisite variety", my need for independence, and my need to "serve" (which, by the way, has nothing to do with "servitude", "servile", or "subservient").... and much of the rest of my life has been an on-going journey of discovery in that regard.... From being an a la cart waiter in a french restaurant, a male nurse, a teacher, a consultant/coach, actor/model, and more than a few more equally divergent roles along the way.  (Details available on my own website, www.theeclecticgeneralist.com)
