The Catamaran Lifestyle Involves Everything Catamaran

A life that embraces catamarans in some way - from your very first cat to cruising on a cat - sums up the Catamaran Lifestyle. The pinnacle of this lifestyle is Cruising on a Catamaran full-time, also sometimes called seasteading.

Before we are able to have a full-fledged discussion on this lifestyle, it is important to address the various choices of lifestyle as well as boat design and economic issues.

This page shows a few catamarans from primitive ones to the most expensive ones and how they are used for several purposes. For most people, this lifestyle will probably be a process where they test out the waters on a small cat and work their way up to trying out several training programs on catamaran sailing. Some folks may rent a catamaran for a few weeks and others love it so much that they want to move up and sail their way through life. This site covers all of these aspects and has a large section on living on a catamaran.

Not as Difficult... and a Lot More Affordable... than you think!

Setting a new world record, 14-year old Laura Dekker solo sailed around the world. She overcame high waves, difficult decisions, and long stretches of loneliness. Before she set out, she learned how to navigate, how to operate the radio and other communication devices, etc.
Practically born on a boat when her parents were sailing around the world, she is not your average girl.

Her 12.30 meter boat 'Guppy' was 30 years old and very affordable at less than 30,000 euro (approx. $40,000).

Great Documentary about Sailing

This is just the trailer. If you watch the entire movie, you'll see Laura complaining a few times about the constant movements of the boat, including all the food falling while cooking because of excess rolling of the boat - and the waves are not even that bad.

This is the difference between sea-legged seaman and 'the rest of us' who like to stay as level as possible.... which is something that a catamaran provides.
