Why Did the Chicken Cross the Road?

(aka... Why Did the Cat Cross the Ocean?)

Hi! My name is Milo Parsons.

The Catamaran Lifestyles website is the result of the long history of conversations between Rob van Zeijst and myself.

In those conversations my life long passion for, and Rob’s relatively recent enthusiastic interest in, multihulls in general and catamarans in particular was basically driving us mad.... to the point where we had to do something concrete towards sharing our passion with others who might also value, and want to enjoy, the advantages, excitement, and satisfactions these wonderful multi-purpose, multi-faceted vehicles offer.

We have some pretty interesting ideas about what we want to bring to you via this site, and a pretty clear idea about what we, and this site, are NOT:

  • We are NOT yacht brokers, agents, or sales specialists in the marine industry.
  • We are NOT marine surveyors, naval architects, or Marine engineers (Though, many years ago, I was active as a trained boat builder, experienced in both monohull and multihull construction.)
  • We ARE both trend watchers, passionately interested in what is happening in the world, in social and lifestyle shifts, politics, economics, technology, ecology, and the many ways all of these things interact with each other!
  • Rob's enthusiasm, curiosity, and tenacity when it comes to questioning everything (so fast and furious that sometimes I can't get an answer in edgewise!) keeps pushing us forward to newer and more useful discoveries.
  • As someone that has been both a cruising sailor and has professionally managed an 11 meter catamaran for a local importer and dealer, I know how easy it is for people's dreams to be squashed by their assumptions and misconceptions about how difficult or expensive, buying, owning, living on, or cruising a boat can be....  And, as a journalist, I have also met others who started from (literally!) nothing, but, with imagination and perseverance, “grew their dream” in only a few years of concentrated effort.  (Just remember.... there is always more than one way to skin the proverbial cat!  <<groan >> )
  • As a generalist, I have a wide variety of professional experience, including managing or working in economic development, both in the USA, and in Micronesia.... so, yes, we are also going to be introducing some “non-recreational” SERIOUS applications, too! (Serious play.... Or, yes, you CAN have your cake and eat it too!)
  • For those of you who crave a living and working environment where you can experience and enjoy true independence and sustainability, without all the political rhetoric, dogma, posturing and belligerence that any expression of same seems to attract, and without the need to become a robber baron, or otherwise sacrificing either your soul or your humanity, in the process, Rob and I think we have some ideas and resources you might want to investigate.

We hope to make this site an aggregate of fun, possibility thinking, serious technology updates, various tools, some useful strategies to help clarify (and, hopefully, manifest!) your dreams, purpose, and goals, and will include useful questions and guidelines that can not only help determine whether a cat makes sense in YOUR preferred lifestyle but also make it possible to find YOUR perfect cat, more easily, more quickly, and more affordably than you might have ever imagined!

Welcome aboard!
